Unkn#wn Visual Identity

The visual identity for Unkn#wn, a horror and thriller content page.

Unkn#wn Visual Identity

Unkn#wn is a Facebook Watch page where fans can find the spooky, scary side of TXT Stories content.

Getting Grittier

Most projects I work on prioritize clean lines and light, friendly colors. Unkn#wn is not that. The TXT Stories umbrella of content also features a horror page, where viewers could spook themselves with text conversations of a less comedic nature.

The logo for Unkn#wn had to pay homage to its classic horror roots while existing in the social media sphere. Tall block lettering is a classic horror movie font choice — so after adding some blood, dirt, and scratches, Unkn#wn was right in its element.

To keep with the clean aesthetic of the modern social media sphere, all the grime and cuts use hard lines and the highlighted # character is suspiciously spotless.

However, small details like dirt and grime don’t scale well. Since social media requires logos to be visible at small sizes, the Unkn#wn brand also has an icon for use in things like profile icons, where the full text logo wouldn’t be legible.

An Alternative Vibe

Horror stories can take all shapes and sizes, and I designed the Unkn#wn brand to be intentionally flexible. Depending on context, the text logo can evolve to use a number of alternate accent icons while still maintaining its recognizable visual mark.
